Carey Olsen Bermuda announces recipient of first ever pupillage training contract

Budding Bermudian lawyer Marcus Symonds has become the first recipient of a pupillage training contract with Carey Olsen Bermuda through the firm's new pupillage programme.

A former Warwick Academy student, Marcus has spent the past three years working within the knowledge team at well-known magic circle firm Freshfields in the UK, but has now returned to Bermuda to begin his pupillage programme with Carey Olsen Bermuda.

Marcus will work across the firm's corporate, dispute resolution and litigation, employment, and trusts and private wealth teams with the added possibility of working abroad in one of Carey Olsen's other global offices. He was selected after a competitive selection process alongside many other strong candidates.

Carey Olsen Bermuda managing partner Michael Hanson said: "We commenced our inaugural law student bursary last year and we're pleased to follow that up this year with our new pupilage training contract. When creating our programme we started with the ethos that our pupils are seen as more than just future lawyers. We are recruiting for the future of our firm and so our objective was to identify individuals who are both capable of becoming lawyers of the highest quality and who can flourish in the hardworking, diverse and inclusive environment we have created in Bermuda. We congratulate Marcus on his success and look forward to working with him as he takes these next crucial steps in his career."

Marcus said: "I am excited and proud to have gained a pupillage with Carey Olsen Bermuda. The firm has quickly established itself as one of the top firms in the Bermuda marketplace and boasts many of the leading lawyers in their chosen field who I am looking forward to learning from and working alongside."
