Celebrating Nigel Carey's 50 years in law
Nigel Carey, a legal pioneer and cornerstone of Carey Olsen in Guernsey, celebrates 50 years of legal service this year. From 1977 to 2008, Nigel served as a partner at Carey Olsen (formerly Carey Langlois) and has remained with the firm as a consultant ever since.
Nigel attended Elizabeth College in Guernsey and then Southampton University from 1967 to 1970, becoming a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 1974 and an Advocate of the Royal Court of Guernsey in 1975.
One of the leading advocates of his generation, Nigel was involved in the development of Guernsey's financial services industry primarily through his work on investment fund structuring and his role as a commissioner of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission between 1992 and 2004.
To commemorate this milestone, Carey Olsen hosted a special celebration on Friday 8 November bringing together colleagues, former colleagues, clients and friends to honour Nigel's exceptional contributions to the firm and to the legal profession in Guernsey.
Nigel said: "It has been an incredible honour to spend 50 years working in law and a privilege to work alongside so many talented clients and colleagues. Guernsey's financial services industry has gone from strength to strength, emerging as one of the world's preeminent jurisdictions for funds, and I am very proud to have been part of the journey. Thank you to all those who have supported me along the way."
