New hires and office move reflects Carey Olsen Bermuda's ongoing growth

Carey Olsen Bermuda Limited has moved into newly-refurbished and much larger offices at the Rosebank Centre in Hamilton.

The firm, which celebrated its third anniversary last November, has grown considerably since opening its doors and now has a team of nearly 40 employees.

In addition to the move, three new attorneys will join Carey Olsen in the coming weeks - Bermudian Kent Smith joins as counsel after 15 years with another offshore firm in Bermuda. A specialist in corporate law, Kent's practice has a particular emphasis on insurance/reinsurance regulatory and transactional matters.

Kent's arrival will be followed by the appointment of international arbitration specialist and counsel Matthew Shaw, and corporate attorney Max Tetlow. Matthew arrives in Bermuda following a 16-year period at two leading international firms in Singapore while Max, who trained in Bermuda, will be focusing on corporate transactions and investment funds (after spending the last two years in a leading Australian law firm).

Managing partner Michael Hanson said: "The move to the Rosebank Centre represents another major step forward in our story and we are very grateful to our hard-working team and to our clients for their steadfast support.

"With some 40 employees now working in Bermuda the investment in a larger office provides us with the space to continue to expand and build on our position as one of the leading law firms in Bermuda. We are wholly committed to the island and its future as a leading offshore jurisdiction. We are also cognisant of its history, and reflective of this ethos is the fact that our staff voted to name our six new conference rooms after their favourite Bermuda heroes.

"Our growth ambitions for Bermuda continue, and we will have more exciting announcements over the coming 12 months."

Carey Olsen Bermuda brings together leading legal specialists in insurance, corporate and commercial, dispute resolution, insolvency, employment, regulatory and compliance, and trusts and private wealth. The firm was ranked across six practice areas in the latest edition of The Legal 500 Caribbean.

Carey Olsen Bermuda is now located at Rosebank Centre, 5th Floor, 11 Bermudiana Road, Pembroke HM 08.
