Carey Olsen strengthens Hong Kong SAR litigation team with new senior hire and secondment return
Carey Olsen has strengthened its dispute resolution and litigation practice in Hong Kong SAR with the appointment of counsel Xia Li and the return of Monique Hansen from a successful secondment with the firm's British Virgin Islands (BVI) office.
A specialist in complex corporate and commercial litigation, shareholders' disputes, restructuring and insolvency, international arbitration, and fraud and investigatory matters, Xia has extensive experience handling high value dispute resolution matters for clients across the Asia region in sectors including banking and financial services, gaming and entertainment, construction and insurance.
Xia, who is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, joins Carey Olsen from another leading offshore firm where she practised across its Hong Kong, BVI and Cayman Islands offices. Prior to moving offshore she gained more than 10 years' experience working for leading international law firms in the financial centres of London, New York, Beijing and Singapore.
Jeremy Lightfoot, partner and head of Carey Olsen's Hong Kong dispute resolution and litigation practice, said: "Xia's senior appointment represents the continued growth of our dispute resolution and litigation team in Hong Kong and our commitment to delivering the highest level of client service. Her extensive knowledge and wide-ranging experience both in Hong Kong and internationally, including time on the ground in the BVI and Cayman, is a valuable addition to our offering."
In addition to Xia's arrival, the Hong Kong dispute resolution and litigation team is further strengthened by the return of Monique from a two year secondment to the firm's BVI office. Monique, who joined Carey Olsen in 2018, has experience advising in a broad range of complex and multi-jurisdictional litigation across several sectors, including large-scale infrastructure, energy and technology-related disputes.
Jeremy commented: "We are delighted to welcome Monique back to the Hong Kong office. Her secondment to our BVI office was a great success but her return is timely as we continue to see an increased volume of instructions locally."
