Carey Olsen advises Jersey Electricity on lease of land for first ground-mounted solar farm
Carey Olsen's Jersey property team has advised long-standing client, Jersey Electricity, on the leasing of land for the installation of a ground-mounted solar farm at Moulin à Vent in Jersey.
The installation is expected to generate enough power for nearly 650 homes. Additionally, where possible, the fields will continue to be utilised for agricultural purposes, including the grazing of livestock alongside the solar equipment to be installed.
Jersey Electricity signed an Agreement for Lease for the fields in July 2022, and planning permission for the development was granted on 18 April 2023. Agricultural consent was also granted in April 2023, and the final condition under the Agreement to Lease was met in December 2023, with the lease being ratified at the Royal Court on 19 January 2024.
Carey Olsen partner Chris Philpott and senior associate Lyndsay Houlette provided continuous support to Jersey Electricity throughout the transaction, which included the preparation of bespoke documentation and addressing the required planning obligation agreement.
Chris Philpott commented: "Carey Olsen is delighted to have advised Jersey Electricity on the Island's first ground-mounted solar farm project. This marks the initial step in the company's planned series of projects aimed at increasing Jersey's energy independence and diversifying its energy sources."
