Carey Olsen's Cayman Islands office launches its articled clerk program

Aspiring lawyer Nicholas Vasic has become the first articled clerk in Carey Olsen's Cayman Islands office after the firm marked the start of 2021 with the launch of its articled clerk training program.

The program will provide hands-on training to Caymanian articled clerks in the types of legal work the firm undertakes and the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to succeed in a career as an attorney. Each clerk will work alongside partners and other lawyers on a broad range of matters across different practice areas over of period of two years. Following successful completion of articles, each articled clerk will be eligible to be admitted as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands.

Nicholas, who is one of six students that have received scholarships from the firm to support undergraduate or postgraduate studies, graduated from the University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada) before moving to London where he earned a Masters of Laws and completed the Legal Practice Course.

Nicholas said: "I am extremely honoured to have the opportunity to be Carey Olsen's first Cayman Islands articled clerk. After having previously interned at the firm I know it to be a fantastic place to work and I am excited to learn from attorneys who are leaders in their chosen fields and to develop my understanding of the industry."

Carey Olsen partner Richard Munden, a member of the firm's training committee, added: "Our new articled clerk training program is part of our commitment to supporting young Caymanians in their professional development and providing talented individuals like Nicholas, who wish to pursue a career in law, with the opportunity and support needed to become an attorney in the Cayman Islands. We congratulate Nicholas on his success so far and look forward to working with him as he takes the next steps in his career."
