Richard advises clients on a wide range of corporate and finance transactions with particular expertise in asset and fund finance. He has deep experience of advising on cross-border transactions, debt capital market transactions, domestic infrastructure projects and joint venture and shareholder arrangements. He also works for a broad range of clients in the rapidly growing digital assets, DEFI and blockchain sector, advising on structures for investing in digital assets and on the regulation of digital assets, exchanges, custodians, liquidity providers and coin and token issuances.

Career

Richard joined Carey Olsen in 2018 after ten years working at another leading offshore law firm in the Cayman Islands where he was a partner in the Finance and Corporate team with a practice focused on asset and fund finance and debt capital markets transactions.

Prior to moving to the Cayman Islands, he was General Counsel and part of the early stage management team of Vueling Airlines in Barcelona. In this role Richard worked on a range of business-critical projects including leading his airline’s fleet acquisition program and manufacturer negotiations. Before moving in-house Richard was a senior associate in the finance group at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London and Madrid. He specialized in cross-border asset finance, bilateral and syndicated lending and project finance for clients including banks, airlines, leasing companies and other large corporates.
