Michelle advises on all aspects of Bermuda corporate and commercial law as a member of the Carey Olsen corporate practice, with notable and varied experience in mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and restructurings, regulatory matters, and commercial contracts.

Michelle provides Bermuda corporate law advice across a broad client base including listed companies, insurance companies, segregated account companies, limited partnerships, and technology startups, both local and international.

Career

Michelle was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in March 2019 after obtaining her Bachelor of Laws degree cum laude and completing her practical vocational training.

Prior to joining Carey Olsen in 2023, Michelle practised in South Africa for international law firm, Eversheds Sutherland, before taking on a legal advisory role at a UK-headquartered alternative legal services firm.

She is a qualified lawyer in both Bermuda and South Africa.

Advised Aon and its subsidiaries, including White Rock Insurance (SAC) Ltd., on the regulatory and structural solutions to the regulatory enforcement measures which arose out of the sophisticated fraud committed by Vesttoo, an Israeli insurtech company with subsidiaries across the world, involving billions of dollars of letters of credit used to collateralise reinsurance transactions.
Advised digital asset business, Mountain Protocol, on obtaining a digital asset business licence to conduct the business of issuing, selling, or redeeming virtual coins, tokens, or any other form of digital asset and providing custodial wallet services - the first time a licence has been issued to a business operating with an ERC20 rebasing token, a technical standard and form of digital asset issued on the Ethereum blockchain.
